How to Care for Embroidered Land Cruiser Hats

Hand Washing: The Right Method
Hand washing is the safest method for any embroidered hat. Use cool or lukewarm water with a small amount of gentle dish soap or woolite. Submerge the hat, use a soft brush to work the soap into soiled areas (sweatband, brim edges), and rinse thoroughly with cool water. Avoid wringing or twisting the brim during washing as this distorts the shape. The structured front panel of most caps holds its shape better when washed gently.
Machine Washing: When It Is Acceptable
If you choose to machine wash, use the delicate cycle with cool water and a mesh laundry bag to protect the hat from spinning damage. Never put a hat in a hot-water wash cycle. Hot water softens the sizing in the brim and distorts structured panels. Machine washing is more acceptable for basic trucker hats than for premium structured snapbacks or Richardson styles with stiff brims.
Drying Your Embroidered Hat
Never put an embroidered hat in the dryer. Heat degrades embroidery thread, distorts structured panels, and can permanently deform the brim. Air dry your hat by reshaping it over a rounded object (a wide-mouth jar, a bowl, or a hat form) that approximates the head shape. This allows the hat to dry while maintaining its original form. Drying flat on a towel can cause the brim to dry in a curved position that is difficult to reverse.
Caring for Leather Patch Hats
Leather patch hats require additional care for the patch itself. Keep leather patches away from prolonged moisture and direct heat. If the patch gets wet, allow it to air dry naturally away from direct sunlight. Conditioning the leather patch annually with a small amount of leather conditioner keeps it from cracking and maintains the quality appearance that makes leather patch hats worth their price.
